Palácio do Governador, Best Hotel Innovation in Portugal
The Palácio do Governador in Lisbon has won the Hotel Innovation in Portugal Award at the Roca Awards to the Hotel Initiative, which are organized by Gran Hotel Turismo and celebrate their 25th anniversary this year.
The hotel in Lisbon received the award at the Roca Madrid Gallery on the 7th June and was nominated along with the Carrís Porto Ribeira in Porto, the Eurostars Cascais in Cascais and the Hotel & Spa Stroganov in Oliveira do Hospital.
The Pálacio do Governador, a 5-star hotel with 60 rooms, all of them different, is located by the Tagus River, in the heart of the Belem’s historic centre, one of the most beautiful and emblematic areas of the Portuguese capital. Built in the former home of the governor of the Belem Tower and beautifully restored over Roman remains from the 1st to 5th centuries, this hotel is a palatial building, with a reception that was a former chapel, a restaurant with original vaults and ceilings and a modern spa that recalls the ancient thermal traditions of the Mediterranean cultures.
The Roca Awards to the Hotel Initiative pay tribute to hotels and hoteliers for their contribution to a sector that continuously surprises and renovates itself. Therefore, obtaining one of these awards entails an enormous prestige for those who work to improve the tourism industry, which is the main driver of the Spanish economy.
Sponsored by Roca, these awards have the collaboration of Alvic Contract Experience, Central Hisúmer, Extrem Puro Extremadura, Orac Decor, Rational, Tattoo Contract, Vandemoortele, Vermut El Ingenioso and Viajes El Corte Inglés.
